Bethesda: Prey 2 “Simply Not Good Enough”

by Adam Biessener on Jun 19, 2013 at 07:01 AM

The publisher’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines said at E3 that the delayed and rumored-dead project is a disappointment internally and vowed to keep fans in the loop if and when the game moves forward.

“We appreciate that folks are displeased that we haven’t had any update or any info on Prey 2, but whatever your displeasure is, you can’t even be remotely as unhappy about it as us,” Hines told IGN. “We spent years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help Human Head make a great Prey 2 game. What we said the last time we said anything was that it’s not up to our quality standards."

Prey 2 has been in development at Human Head Studios, which developed the original (and also long-delayed to the tune of over a decade) Prey that released in 2006. The project’s status is currently unknown, though unsubstantiated rumors from a few weeks ago alleged that Dishonored developer Arkane Studios has taken over and is rebuilding the game from the ground up.

Hines cast the decision as a business reality that has nothing to do with an aversion to the series, the subject matter, or Human Head. “What is the chance that we have some amazing, unbelievable game and we’re just not talking about it for no reason? Zero,” Hines said. “This is a business. We do have bills to pay and people to employ. They have families that they would like to provide for. You don’t just keep throwing money at something or going down a path that you’re not happy about.”

It would seem that Bethesda is eager to put the days of Rogue Warrior and Brink behind it.
