Fez Programmer Not Returning For Fez II
Phil Fish was the creative force behind the original Fez, but he did have help. Renaud Bédard was the programmer on the game. If you've seen Indie Game: The Movie you will know that Bédard was an integral part of Fez. We reached out to Bédard to find out if he would be returning for the sequel, and he said no, he is not, but he is very excited for the game.
Bédard's last work on Fez was bringing the game to PC. He is currently working on the upcoming Below with Capybara games.
If you've had a chance to check out our latest issue of the magazine or checked out our cover reveal (featuring Titanfall), then you will know that before the announcement of Fez 2, we spoke with Bédard to find out what he has been working on since the release of Indie Game: The Movie, and we asked why he decided to leave Polytron after the release of Fez on PC.
"I wanted to leave because I'd been working five years with one other guy on one project, and I needed to get some fresh air. Right now, I don't think single-programmer indie development is good for me; it definitely was a great way to learn everything that goes into making a game, but I never had the opportunity to learn from peers directly. Now, forcing myself to be in situations where I don't have complete control, in different frameworks and languages, I get to learn from people who've been doing what I'm doing for many years, and it's exactly what I was looking for."
