PS4 Has No Used Game Restrictions Or Online Requirements

by Mike Futter on Jun 10, 2013 at 04:52 PM

Jack Tretton just won an enormous round of applause. He just announced that the PlayStation 4 will not impose new used game restrictions. The system will also not require online authentication.

Additionally, PlayStation Plus memberships will carry over to PlayStation 4 with no additional cost. Netflix and other services won't be behind a paywall. Oh, and your instant collection will start on day one with DriveClub. It's not clear whether it's the full version given the "PlayStation Plus edition" sub-title. There will be a new free game every month, with three indie titlesincluding Don't Starve coming in the first months.

One interesting note is that Tretton was careful to state that single-player content and media services (like Netflix) will be free without a subscription. Be prepared to pay a fee for multiplayer.

The response in the crowd seems to say it all, but what do you think? What are your plans for next generation?
