by Matt Helgeson on May 17, 2013 at 07:16 AM

Following his success as the artichect of DoubleFine's The Cave, Ron Gilbert has once again struck out on a new game development adventure. Scurvy Scallywags, his new iOS project from Beep Games, Inc., is billed as "the match-3 musical, pirate RPG you've been waiting for!" Click through to watch the trailer.

It's obvious that the Monkey Island creator's trademark sense of humor is still in tact, as the trailer offers up such game "features" as "state of the art sea shanty" as selling points. However, you can also tell that the game is going to offer a good bit of depth when compared to the usual match-3 experience, which customizable characters, special powers, and the ability to build your own pirate ship - as well as some pretty amusing original music.

There is no official release date for Scurvy Scallywags, but the trailer says its "coming soon" to the Apple App Store.
