Xbox 360 Sales Eclipse The 70 Million Mark

by O'Dell Harmon on Oct 19, 2012 at 08:45 AM

Microsoft has hit the 70 million mark in Xbox 360s sold worldwide since the consoles debut in November 2005. Though that number appears to be a coup for the company, it was revealed that Xbox sales were actually down 29 percent as compared to the same period (July through September) in 2011. Microsoft moved 1.7 million Xbox 360s in the quarter in 2012, but that's 600,000 fewer than in 2011. Microsoft CFO Peter Klein admitted that the home console market "continues to be challenged."

However, it does put the Xbox 360 far ahead of its predecessor, the original Xbox, which only sold 24 million units worldwide during its four year lifecycle.

Along with this milestone Microsoft reports that Xbox Live memberships have seen a 15 percent increase during the quarter.
