[Updated With Video] Activision Announces Skylanders Giants

by Matt Helgeson on Feb 07, 2012 at 07:25 AM

At the upcoming Toy Fair in New York, Activision will be showing a new game featuring giant-sized Skylanders figures.

The new game is called, appropriately, Skylanders Giants, and will showcase eight new collectible figures in the Skylanders Giants line (pictured above), which will feature unique powers and abilities in the game when placed on the Skylanders portal device that connects with your console.

Some of the Giants figures will use a new technology that will make them light up when placed on or near the portal (no batteries required). In addition, Activision has announced that eight new standard-sized Skylanders figures designed for the new game will be released at the same time as the Giants line. Activision and developer Toys for Bob will also be implementing new arenas and gameplay options in the game's Battle Mode, as well as "enhanced Elemental Zones" and new Hero Challenges. All previously released Skylanders figures will be compatible with Skylanders Giants.

According to the press release, the original Skylanders game and toy line has been very successful for Activision, generating the most sales of any new children's IP in North American in 2011.

It's also a very fun game. Check out our review for more.
