Report: Nintendo Details How 3DS Ambassador Games Will Work

by Bryan Vore on Aug 12, 2011 at 10:51 AM

Nintendo will cough up 20 free NES and Game Boy Advance games on 3DS for early adopters. But what limitations will they have?

On September 1, Nintendo will drop 10 free NES games. However, according to OfficialNintendoMagazine.co.uk, they're considered unfinished "priority delivery" versions of the games with only a basic electronic manual and the Virtual Console suspend function like on the Wii. Once the games eventually become available on the eShop, they'll include full functionality including actual restore points (like the Game Boy VC titles), simultaneous local co-op (think Ice Climbers), and complete electronic manuals. All ambassadors will get these updates for free.

The Game Boy Advance games that hit later will include a full electronic manual, but unfortunately no suspend or restore point functionality ever. And if you close the 3DS it will not go into sleep mode.

Also, a firmware update later on will allow consumers to transfer NES and GBA games to other 3DS systems like the DSi to 3DS transfer that exists now.
