Assassin’s Creed II Overshadows Original Sales

by Meagan Marie on Nov 24, 2009 at 03:48 AM

When you make a great game, some degree of self-congratulatory behavior is acceptable. So we don’t mind Ubisoft sharing their success story regarding the recently released Assassin’s Creed II. Other powerhouses (Activision comes to mind) certainly aren’t shy in this department.

News out of London this morning revealed that the first week's sales for Assassin’s Creed II totaled at over 1.6 million units sold worldwide. This is a sizable 32 percent growth over the first game’s launch week. Assassin’s Creed has obviously built up anticipation and recognition of the brand since the franchise’s November 2007 launch, prompting more gamers to buy the sequel immediately upon release. It’s never bad to best yourself, especially when Ubisoft boasts that the original Assassin’s Creed was the fastest selling new video game IP ever in the United States.

Congrats go out to the team behind Assassin’s Creed II.
