Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (July 20, 2017)

by Game Informer Editorial on Jul 20, 2017 at 10:53 AM

From defeating backlogs to couch co-op, and a list of this year's best games, this week's Blog Herding is a great one.

Community Blogs For July 13 – July 19:

The New Gold Standard For Split-Screen Gaming
Gears of War has always been a fantastic cooperative series, especially thanks to split-screen cooperative play. Trenchmace says that Gears of War 4 continues that tradition brilliantly. I have to agree that there is nothing like playing a great co-op game next to someone. Heck, I even have a buddy come over with his PS4 so we can "couch co-op" games together online.

My Top Ten Favorite Video Game Heroes
McNutty891 forms a pretty solid list of great heroes with this blog post. What do you think? Who would make your list? My own list of 10 would be very difficult to create, but I would have to keep a spot open for Ramza of Final Fantasy Tactics. My teleporting Mime version of him, anyway.

The End Of An Era: PlayStation 2 Backlog Finished
Devil May Cry 3 was GerardoExber's final game to finish on his PS2 in order to defeat the almighty backlog. With such strong ties to the system, having beaten so many games, Gerardo reminisces about some of his favorite gaming moments. I'm just jealous he beat all of his games on the console.

My Midyear Top 5 GOTY List
Refle is not kidding when he says 2017 has been amazing for video games. Heck, even the list he writes about the most anticipated games for the rest of the year will probably be juggernauts. I mean, The New Colossus is a sequel to a game that was one of my favorites when it released, and that is coming out in a year that saw a new Zelda and What Remains of Edith Finch. Wild.

Top 4 Anime That Should Have a Game
When it comes to anime games, we get some good ones, and some bad ones. StarterPack is hoping for some more, at the very least. I've only ever watched Cowboy Bebop (love, love, love this show) on this list, but they all sound like they could work in the game realm. I know I wouldn't mind a new Bebop game to be released in the west.

You're Doing It Wrong! Five Developer Habits That Need To Stop
Brandon McCandless has some issues with things video game makers do, such as day-one DLC. While some of these are issues we've heard of before, it seems that tropes and themes shall be repeated. But no way is a lock-on button good for Monster Hunter, nor would it really work. That's my take, anyway. But let's please, please let's have more interesting villains.

Writing Challenge:

This writing challenge comes courtesy of Qrow Rose (thanks!). I think I'm interpreting it correctly, otherwise I am putting a little spin on it. Everyone is tasked with writing about a game that made you more passionate about the topics covered in that game. I know I've become interested in way more things thanks to games, and even was able to learn some cool soccer moves thanks to Pro Evolution replays (we didn't have great Internet back in the day to watch videos online).

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
