Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (July 6, 2017)

by Game Informer Editorial on Jul 06, 2017 at 11:19 AM

We hope everyone enjoyed a fun Fourth of July weekend full of grilling and gaming. Based on this week's Blog Herding, it looked like quite a few people found time to write about games as well!

Community Blogs For June 22 – June 28:

My Top 4 Cinematic Gaming Experiences
MikComposer is a huge fan of story-driven games, and these four top the list when it comes to the blogger's favorites. I was happy to see The Wolf Among Us on the list. That game, and the comic series it is based upon, are absolutely fantastic.

A Discussion On Video Games Achievements
When it comes to video game achievements, McNutty891 likes to try and collect every one. I used to like completing some games. If done correctly, achievements provide extra incentive to fully explore a game in new ways. If done poorly, they turn into a dull grind.

My Top 10 Resident Evil Games
I was curious as to how GerardoExber would rank the Resident Evil series. I have played every main game and some offshoots, and love the series dearly. While I would rate them a little differently, and definitely put 7 on there, this is a good list of which zombie outbreaks were the best.

The Case For Crash Bandicoot: Why the original three Crash Bandicoot games are some of gaming's greatest
TrentDF writes, "Let's be honest here, Crash is not nearly as impactful or influential as Mario." While that may be true, the series can't be understated in just how important it was for the Sony PlayStation brand. And Trent gives the three games a proper, thorough look in this blog.

MightyMagikarp's Top 100 Video Game Characters (#80-71)
MightyMagikarp is back with a list of cool video game characters. 'Karp put an insane amount of work into this blog post, so it takes a while to read, but I recommend that you all get your eyeballs on it.

Dissonance of Dual Screens – Where the Wii U Failed
DD1216 straight up calls the Wii U a failure for Nintendo. While it may not have sold like gangbusters, I have to disagree. The second screen wasn't a game changer, but it did come in handy for games like Monster Hunter. I also appreciated being able to play Breath of the Wild on just the Gamepad.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: All About the Aesthetic
Haley Shipley jumps back into the Writing Challenge with a piece about how much she loves hand-drawn art and strong art styles in general. "Art direction can completely make or break something for me," she writes. And to answer her question on art direction that draws me in, one game that comes to mind is Baten Kaitos. I can't remember which one of the two games had it, but one world was depicted as clay.

Writing Challenge:

We haven't done this in a while, so I am looking for ideas on writing topics you guys and gals would like to write about!

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
