Five Actresses We'd Love To See As Lara Croft In The Next Tomb Raider Movie

by Brian Shea on Mar 10, 2016 at 11:30 AM

Earlier today, Deadline reported that Daisy Ridley – best known for her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens – could be considered for Warner Bros. and MGM's upcoming film adaptation of the Tomb Raider series. Based on the report, negotiations haven't even begun, but it got us thinking about what actresses would be the best fit for the iconic adventurer.

With the video game series getting a reboot in recent years, it seems as though the film series will also be going that route. That means no more Angelina, and a presumably young actress cast in the role of Lara. With that in mind, we found five amazing actresses who we think would absolutely kill it in the role of a young Lara Croft. Check out our picks below and be sure to see who our readers thought would be a good fit for Lara when we asked for your input last year.

Daisy Ridley
The selection of Daisy Ridley might sound like it's just capitalizing on her popularity following her role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but in the biggest movie ever made, Ridley shined amidst the likes of Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, and Carrie Fisher. She proved that she can act alongside the best and carry a blockbuster action film. Also, what video game fan didn't immediately get images of Tomb Raider or Uncharted in their head during the early scene where Rey's exploring the wreckage?

Camilla Luddington
You might know Camilla Luddington as Dr. Josephine Wilson on Grey's Anatomy, Claudette on True Blood, or Lizzie on Californication. You might also know her as the voice of Lara Croft in the rebooted Tomb Raider video game series. Luddington has held roles in several films and TV series, but what makes her a natural fit for the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider film is that it's a role she's already perfected, as she has done all the voice and motion capture for Lara in both the 2013 reboot and the 2015 sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Emma Watson
The acting prowess of Emma Watson has been put on display time and time again, so it would be a thrill to see her rise to the challenge of a tough role such as Lara Croft. Her impressive list of award nominations and wins is testament enough to her ability to pick up a role and own it, and that's the kind of star that a character like Lara Croft requires.

Lauren Cohan
Assuming a role that's constantly presented with dire situations that require desperate solutions would be nothing new for Lauren Cohan. Best known for her role as Maggie Greene in The Walking Dead television series, Cohan has done her fair share of looting, shooting, and stabbing. While the world of Tomb Raider isn't quite the post-apocalyptic zombie planet of The Walking Dead, Cohan has proven to have the badass acting chops required to nail the role.

Zoë Kravitz
The daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet already has experienced success as a model, musician, and actress, but taking on Lara Croft in the next film would be her biggest role yet. Appearing in Mad Max: Fury Road, the Divergent series, and X-Men: First Class, we know she has good range in her acting abilities, and it would be awesome to see how her roles in some of the more bleak films she's appeared in would transition to the harrowing origin story of the famous tomb raider.
