The Wondrous Sights Of TGS 2014 – Day Three

by Joe Juba on Sep 20, 2014 at 06:15 AM

The Tokyo Game Show is almost done, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything left to see. With the show now open to the public, the crowds get more intense, but the excitement level also skyrockets.

Not only are there more people at TGS on the public days, but more of them are in costume. So, for our final installment of pictures from TGS, we pay special attention to these cosplayers who have the courage to pose and smile while people with cameras take pictures. We've also got a selection of shots of the merchandise available at publishers' stores, in case you need an even longer list of cool video game stuff to own.

First of all, this is the line of people waiting to get in. These are the lucky ones, actually, because they're inside. The crowds of people waiting to get in stretch outside of the convention hall, and it's raining out there.

Curious to see what would happen, I turned on my 3DS, cleared out my street passes and then walked down the line. After about 100 feet, I had already met the maximum of 10 other people. Also, Smash Bros. just came out here, so everyone is playing it.

This is a shot of the show floor right as the convention officially opens. Considering there are thousands of people lined up waiting to get in, this crowd is only going to grow.

Outside of the gaming halls, some publishers have set up shops. Capcom's is a great place to go if you love Monster Hunter...

...and a depressing place to go if you love Ace Attorney.

Konami fares a bit better with its store. Tons of Metal Gear figures and merchandise to be found here.

The only downside is that the coolest stuff (like this shirt) is already sold out...

...but at least the lame stuff is discounted.

The Square Enix store has a predictable and adorable array of iconic Final Fantasy plushies.

Don't worry, Square also has plenty of great-looking "real" figures...

...and that strange Batman design we saw announced this summer.

The official TGS store isn't quite as popular as the others...but I like their scrappy underdog attitude.]

And now, the grand finale: Cosplay! This is a really big thing at TGS. There's a fenced-off, designated area for people in costume to stand around and get photographed, and some of them draw surprisingly large crowds. Head to page two for a selection of our favorite costumes we saw from our time wandering around.

That's the end of our TGS photo chronicle. If you're interested in seeing even more crazy sights, don't forget to check out our galleries from day one and day two galleries.
