Sega's Shinobi Becoming A Feature Film

by Daniel Tack on Apr 29, 2016 at 10:06 AM

Producer Marc Platt (Legally Blonde, Into the Woods) has joined forces with Sega to create a feature film based on the ninja-centric Shinobi franchise.

Platt will be teaming up with Stories International president and CEO Tomoya Suzuki. In addition to the Shinobi film, Suzuki's company is working on media projects that involve other beloved franchises such as Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Virtua Fighter, and Crazy Taxi.

“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen,” said Platt in the announcement. “We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games.”

Our Take
Turning some of my favorite old-school IPs into games, TV, and other forms of media? Sign me up! Rise from your grave, nostalgia-laden IPs of a world long past. While I have little faith in this day and age that any video game movie will be any good due to a long history of disasters and cringeworthy fare, I can't help but hope that one day our savior will come and give us what we've always been waiting for: a video game movie that doesn't completely suck.
