Curse Voice Expands To Mac And Mobile With Free Voice Chat

by Mike Futter on Jun 25, 2015 at 10:16 AM

Curse joins TeamSpeak and Mumble today with Mac and mobile solutions for game chat. The company announced that it has released beta clients of its Curse Voice voice over IP (VOIP) solution for Mac, iOS, and Android.

Curse claims that it is more secure than solutions like Skype, because of encoding that protects user IP addresses and identity. The Mac and iOS applications support voice chat and offline messaging. The Android solution is, right now, text based with voice coming soon.

The program is integrated with a number of games, including Minecraft, Smite, and League of Legends, via a screen overlay similar to what Steam offers. The application and services are free, with clients available from Curse’s website.

Our Take
For those applications that don’t offer integrated voice (or the solution isn’t of high quality), using a VOIP app is a smart choice. Skype works with friends, but something like Curse Voice is a good option when you need to chat with a team (like in a MOBA), but want a bit of extra security.
