GDC Awards To Honor Riot Games Founders, Anita Sarkeesian

The organizers behind the Game Developers Conference scheduled for March 2014 have announced a number of special awards. Anita Sarkeesian, creator of the Feminist Frequency Tropes vs. Women in Video Games web series, and Riot Games founders Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill will be honored at the Game Developers Choice Awards on March 19th.

Sarkeesian will receive the Ambassador Award, given to someone who is helping video games “advance to a better place.” Her web series, Feminist Frequency is an examination of the representation of women in gaming.

Beck and Merill will receive the Pioneer Award. This honor is bestowed to individuals that have created a breakthrough in technology and gameplay design. Riot Games’ League of Legends hosts 27 million players each day and over 67 million players each month.
