Steam For Linux Now Live

by Adam Biessener on Feb 14, 2013 at 08:06 AM

Valve has officially released Steam for the open-source Linux operating system. To celebrate, over 50 Linux titles are half off or more until next Wednseday.

The best part of the news is that for a limited time, Linux players of Team Fortress 2 (now free to play, remember) will receive an exclusive in-game Linux penguin mascot. Don't tell me you're not tempted to install Linux just for that reason alone. Look at that guy! He's adorable!

Steam on Linux is a fully featured client, including Big Picture mode and all the community features Steam gamers are familiar with like in-game screenshot capture and publishing.

Valve notes that the best way to game on Linux is using the Ubunto 12.04 distribution and the latest drivers from Nvidia, so keep that in mind if you're looking to break free of your Microsoft chains.
