Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Switches Roles At Sega

by Tim Turi on Jun 24, 2011 at 06:13 AM

Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, and Outrun are important games in Sega’s history. These games were all designed by Yu Suzuki, who up until now has been working in the company’s amusement R&D  division. The influential game maker is reducing his role at the company to advisor.

"In 2008 I established YS NET, my current company," Suzuki told Gamasutra. "I'll be leaving my current job at Sega this September, and after that point I'll remain on as an advisor."

"So I've formally been with both companies from 2008 until September 2011. With the new company, I've been doing pretty much what I personally want to do myself," said Suzuki.

Suzuki is working on a Kinect fighting game and may also be porting mobile game Shenmue Town to iPhone. We look forward to seeing what else the luminary stirs up, and wish him the best of luck.

So...what does this mean for Shenmue 3?
