Nintendo Seeking 99 Percent Consumer Confidence In Vitality Sensor Before Release

by Annette Gonzalez on May 03, 2011 at 08:42 AM

During a recent Nintendo investor Q&A, company president Satoru Iwata reassured our worried hearts that the Vitality Sensor is still in development. The only thing standing in the way of seeing this unusual peripheral on store shelves is achieving desired consumer confidence in the product.

"This is a totally new type of entertainment, and there are large individual differences in the biological information of humans," Iwata told investors. "For example, if it was acceptable that only 80% of the users thought the result was natural, then we could propose this to consumers right now. However, we are aiming for a level of quality in which 99% percent of consumers feel comfortable, and that is why this project is taking time to complete."

Iwata says it is unclear when the sensor will appear on the market. Maybe in time for a new console?
