Microsoft Explains What's To Come For Xbox Live

by Annette Gonzalez on Aug 26, 2010 at 08:50 AM

At the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Xbox Live Studios' Jerry Johnson discussed key points concerning the future of Xbox's online platform.

Johnson admits that in order to continually increase Xbox's user base, Microsoft must work toward building engagement with the Xbox Live service. He says Microsoft plans to update all applications running on the service in time for Kinect's launch (less ads? fingers crossed). Johnson also says with the Gamescom announcement that 60 Windows 7 phone games will be Live-enabled with access to Gamerscores, Achievements, and Avatars, the Live service will continue to grow beyond the Xbox.

"Expanding into other devices is key to what we're doing, he says. "Continuing to take Live broader than the console has always been part of the core concept."
