Hints Of Future Need For Speed Titles Surface

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jul 01, 2010 at 12:40 PM

The Internet is a great tool for finding new jobs. It's also a great tool for finding out about upcoming video games from people trying to find new jobs. Today's find? Need For Speed goodness.

Superannuation dug up two LinkedIn profiles that hint at upcoming Need For Speed games. The first is from Rees Savidis, who posted on his profile that he "helped to develop the fiction and characters for the 2011 instalment [sic] in the AAA Need For Speed" franchise" at EA Blackbox. The recently announced Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is being developed by Criterion and is due this November, so we're pretty sure this is a different beast.

The second bit of news is from Chris Mcclure, whose profile stated he worked on Need For Speed Shift 2. He has since corrected his profile to read "Need For Speed Shift too," stating it was an innocent typo. We're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but would it really blow anyone's mind if EA was working on a sequel to Shift?

Back in January, EA's John Riccitiello said to expect "a revitalized Need for Speed" in fiscal 2011. While he could be referring to Hot Pursuit (fiscal 2011 starts in April 2010), we'd be surprised if EA didn't have more NFS titles in the works, especially since the company has been splitting the franchise between action-oriented and sim-minded installments. Which one would you prefer to see next?
