New Crysis 2 Info Surfaces

by Jeff Marchiafava on Feb 15, 2010 at 07:45 AM

Crytek is starting to pull back the veil on the sequel to its flagship shooter, Crysis. In a news story previewing the next issue of Edge magazine, Crytek president Cevat Yerli states that Crysis 2’s battlefield, Manhattan Island, will be a unique take on New York City, in the way movies like I Am Legend and The Day After Tomorrow created their own version of a destroyed metropolis.  “It’ll be a New York City like none in games or cinema,” Yerli says.

Executive producer Nathan Camarillo discloses more information. The size of Manhattan will be comparable to the island of the first game, but it will be more vertical as well, at times spanning up to three stories. Camarillo calls it a 'constrained freedom.' “You’re not interested in the 55th floor of each building, but we want you to feel you’re surrounded," he says. "You have this freedom to explore these small pockets and go really deep on details, but seeing all of New York isn’t necessarily that exciting…”

Additionally, the new Nanosuit 2 will feature a Tactical mode that allows you to eavesdrop on distant foes, and a Strength mode that protects you from enemy fire. Directional bullet trails, X-ray vision, and bullet deflection are three more enhancements revealed, but not detailed in the news story.

Who's excited about another graphically stunning step into the world of Crysis? And do these new details make you more psyched or uncertain?
