UPDATE Dead Space Director Glen Schofield’s New Game To Be Set in Vietnam?

by Ben Reeves on Feb 11, 2010 at 09:25 AM

UPDATE: Activision just got back to us about this story. The company's official stance is, "We're sorry, but it's our policy not to comment on speculations or rumors." Looks like this tidbit is going to have to remain a mystery for a while longer. Once we do hear official word about the game, if there's any to tell, we'll be sure to spread the news.

ORIGINAL STORY: The gaming community was a little stunned when Dead Space mastermind Glen Schofield left EA for Activision last Summer. We expected to have to wait a year or two to hear what Schofield and his team were cooking up, but according to one of our forum posters, Tommy L, Schofield has already been fairly forthcoming about his new game.

Tommy L says that he ran into Schofield at a store and learned that the new game – from a large portion of the old Dead Space team – is going to be a third-person shooter taking place in Vietnam. It will be another survival horror title, but there will be more high-level action elements to it, à la Call of Duty, and possibly a few stealth or co-op elements as well. We’ve already contacted Activision to confirm the rumor.

It’s possible that Tommy L didn’t actually run into Schofield, or that the developer was just screwing around with the guy, but if this is true, then maybe we should all try spending more time hanging out in game stores just hoping to run into developers.
