Weekend Warrior 02/05/10

by Annette Gonzalez on Feb 05, 2010 at 12:30 PM

It's all about Mass Effect this weekend! Oh yeah, and there's some sort of football game on this weekend, too. Read on to find out why Reiner has cats, and what the rest of us are playing this weekend, then head on over to the comments section and share your game plans.

Reiner: I have no plans this weekend. I'm going to wing it like Scott Bakula used to on Quantum Leap. I can, however, tell you what I won't be doing. I refuse to watch the Super Bowl. I'd rather clean the house, which I won't be doing, either. That's why I have cats. And I won't be spending time with family. I already gave them my childhood. Now that I think about it, figuring out what I won't be doing on the weekend is so much easier than planning what I want to do! Call me the Weekend Warrior Innovator! What's that? You want a little bit more of the Innovator's non-commitments? No problem. I won't be reading Joe's Weekend Warrior plans.

Joe: I'm racing to the finish line in Mass Effect 2 this weekend. I've been playing it as much as possible during the week, but I'll finally have a chunk of uninterrupted time that will allow me to see what lies beyond the Omega-4 Relay. If things go well, I'll beat the game and start up my second playthrough before the end of the day on Sunday. With a little restraint, I may be able to restrict myself to only two or three playthroughs of this game! I have a dummy face.

Reiner: Told ya.

Joe: Stay classy, Reiner.

Jeff C: This weekend it's going to be all Mass Effect 2, all the time. I'm only a few hours into it, but I'm already hooked. Everyone I talk to about it seems to hate the Vanguard class, so let's hope they're all wrong. It's too early in the game for me to say for certain if I've made a terrible choice. If so, there's always a second playthrough to look forward to...

Tim: Tonight I vow to complete Mass Effect 2, finally. After that, I hope to start a new game in Mass Effect 1 and then play that through and experience the game as a Renegade protagonist. Completing that, I'll upload that character into Mass Effect 2 and replay that game. Glorious!

Dan: My dad is in town this weekend from Kansas City, so I plan on spending the next few days showing him around the city. That's going to involve a lot of food and beer, so this does not bode well for the weight loss challenge. We'll probably try to find a sports bar with a nice-sized TV for the Super Bowl this Sunday. Gaming-wise, it would be rude to play Mass Effect 2 or something like that while I have a guest, so I'll probably pull out the SNES to play some Mario Kart or Ken Griffey Jr. with him like we did 15+ years ago.

Jeff M: After last weekend I can finally cross the original Mass Effect off my list of unfinished games. This week I think I’ll play something a little lighter, like LittleBigPlanet or maybe Red Faction: Guerilla. I still haven’t gotten tired of the Bad Company 2 demo though, so maybe I’ll put a couple more hours into that as well – hopefully shooting things will help me forget that the Vikings aren’t going to be in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Annette: I'm trying to catch up on Mass Effect, but first I have to run a bunch of grown-up errands this weekend. I hate those. I'm also going to do my taxes and wrap up P90X for the week. As I re-read that sentence, I realized with the exception of playing ME, my weekend is going to suck.

Phil: I'm going to devote most of this weekend to catching up with some older games. I've been enjoying the unique take on the rhythm genre that DJ Hero provides, and I recently decided to check out 360 launch title, Amped 3. This snowboarding game is giving me a nice break from the overflow of action titles from the last six months. I'm also picking up a copy of White Knight Chronicles, but given Miller's less-than-stellar impressions, I'm not sure that I'll be rushing to crack this game open.

Sean: I'm heading to corporate on Sunday and to help me with the fact I'll be in a hotel room for two weeks will be the copy of BioShock 2 I was able to yank from the Vault before anyone noticed. Here's hoping my old PS3 survives the trip. Some Jeanne D'Arc and Final Fantasy VIII on the plane, and checking out Dallas-FW for the first time should occupy the rest of my time. Rumor has it there's a football game this weekend?

That's it for us. What will you be playing this weekend?
