Rumor of Gran Turismo 5 Track Editor

by Matthew Kato on Nov 03, 2009 at 05:50 AM

Gran Turismo 5 – coming out in February – is trying to make up for lost features in a big way. First fans were thrilled that the title was going to have damageable cars for the first time, and now there is an unconfirmed rumor that developer Polyphony Digital is putting a track editor in the game.

News first broke on website eg4, who said it talked to an unidentified representative (the insinuation is that the person was from Polyphony Digital) saying, "Yes it will have a track editor. You will be able to rebuild a track from scratch or edit the tracks that are already put in Gran Turismo 5."

We hope like all hell that this feature is actually going to make it into a game, but given Polyphony's strict reverence for real-life track designs as well as the possible Franken-graphics nature of making your own track from real ones, we wonder if this will actually happen. And if it does, we certainly hope that the photo-realistic backgrounds that the series has become known for can be used in the editor as well.

What kinds of tracks would you make? Between the tight confines of the Nurburgring to the hill drop s-curve at Leguna Seca and all points in between, if this rumor is true, this track editor could be epic.
