Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (August 24, 2017)

This week's blogs were fantastic. Everyone, even those who didn't make it into Blog Herding, did a great job. Keep writing!

Community Blogs For August 17 – August 23:

I Finished Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in One Sitting; Here Are Some Impressions
First off – well done for finishing the game in one sitting, Trenchmace. I think I miss those days. Honestly, it feels tiring and awesome. Anyway, Trenchmace was a lucky duck, playing the entire Gears series for the first time. It is such a great cooperative experience, and I would love to experience the original Gears of War again for the very first time. And like Trenchmace says, the game holds up thanks to the insanely good combat.

Why A 7 Out Of 10 Can Mean A Bad Score From Game Reviewers
Corvo Attano is right that a 7 out of 10 can spell doom for a game, which is nuts. Plenty of times I have enjoyed a 7-rated game, but it didn't take long for me to stop reading reviews (and most things about games because spoilers; I am strictly a feature kind of guy). What do you think? Do people care too much about scores and whatnot? One of my favorite games ever is Sega Soccer Slam, and that game had 7s across the board. I still play it to completion once every couple of years.

Looking Back On The Oddly Special Game That Was Dragon's Dogma
You should all know that Refle is correct that Dragon's Dogma is life and life is Dragon's Dogma. Okay, that was me, uh, editorializing. But Refle does love that game a bunch. And after five years, he still loves it (me too). What stands out for our blogger are the numerous beasts and classes, and how you can take out those beasts. It's such a great game.

Top 7 Best Web Games
MikComposer had me interested with just the headline. What he writes about web games is true – you can play them nearly anywhere if there is a computer around. I was a big fan of Every Day the Same Dream. I remember infecting the newsroom in Kodiak, AK, with that oddball game.

Does XP Ruin Action Games?
Psykologic wrote three great blogs this week, but this one had me most intrigued. Our blogger isn't concerned with leveling up in an action game. He wants to brawl. And I get that and like the reasons he lays out. I like both just getting after it and leveling up. What do you think, dear readers?

Writing Challenge Responses:

31/31 Day 17: Gotta Go Fast?
I jokingly snapped my fingers and pointed toward the exit when I read that Haley Shipley had never played a Sonic game. No one tell Tim Turi! She is willing to try the series out, but needs our help. Really, Haley, just get the original Sega Genesis titles on Steam or in the many collections, and work your way up. Sonic CD is also a must, and I'll admit I like Knuckles Chaotix thanks to that crew being from the Sonic comic (a comic I own from issue 1 all the way through to just two years ago). And don't forget Sonic Adventure.

Writing Challenge:

Let's write about health in games. Maybe it's about how Booker eats too much in BioShock. Or you could write about how ripped the Gears' characters are. Think of something creative related to health and write about it!

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
