Ubisoft Acquires Mobile Publisher Ketchapp

by Matthew Kato on Sep 28, 2016 at 04:34 AM

Ubisoft has acquired free-to-play mobile publisher Ketchapp, which has put out titles such as 2048, ZigZag, and Stack.

According to Ubisoft, Ketchapp games have been downloaded 700 million times since the creation of Ketchapp in 2014, and the purchase makes Ubisoft the fourth largest mobile publisher "when measured by number of downloads."

The acquisition still has to be fully approved, and is expected to be so in Ubisoft's 2016-2017 third quarter.

Our Take
Given how Ubisoft lost Gameloft, it makes sense that Ubisoft wants to replenish the mobile publisher cupboard. However, I'm not familiar enough with Ketchapp's portfolio to understand how it does or does not match up with what Ubisoft lost with Gameloft.
