Oculus Animated VR Short Henry Wins An Emmy

by Ben Reeves on Sep 08, 2016 at 07:52 AM

Oculus Story Studio’s Pixar-like animated short, Henry, has just won an award for "best original interactive program" in TV-focused Emmy awards.

The interactive program category was added to the Emmy Awards back in 2013, but this is the first time that an original VR production has taken home the prize. This award also comes from the juried Emmy categories, where winners must earn unanimous approval from a panel of industry professionals.

Henry (check out the trailer below) is the story of a hapless hedgehog who struggles to find friendship thanks to his spiky exterior. The film is narrated by Elijah Wood, and you can watch it yourself if you have access to a VR headset.

Oculus Story Studio is currently working on a new project called Dear Angelica.

Our Take
As VR continues to evolve as an art form we shouldn't be surprised to see its content garner more praise and awards, but it's fascinating to see that its first major award come from the TV-centric Emmy Awards.
