Blizzard Reveals New Overwatch Map At Gamescom

by Haley MacLean on Aug 16, 2016 at 10:30 AM

It seems fitting that Blizzard announced its new Overwatch map set in Germany at this year's Gamescom, which takes place in the German city of Cologne.

Set in a rustic and abandoned castle town in Stuttgart, Germany, the new map, Eichenwalde, weaves through empty shops and cobblestone passages leading up and into a massive castle. The map is a Assault/Escort hybrid where one group attempts to get a battling ram through the castle's main gate while the other tries to stop them from breaching its walls.

The map is playable at Blizzard's Gamescom booth and will go live for all Overwatch players in September. Also during Gamescom, Overwatch's next animated short The Last Bastion premiered via live stream earlier today.

Interestingly, in some new screenshots of the map seen below it appears Eichenwalde is littered with destroyed and overgrown robots who happen to look a great deal like Bastion.
