Sega Acquires Endless Space Developer Amplitude Studios

by Matthew Kato on Jul 05, 2016 at 03:44 AM

Amplitude Studios, developers of the Endless Space strategy series, has been acquired by Sega.

The formerly independent studio in France is currently working on Endless Space 2 (slated for release in 2016), and the founders explained the move in part in a post on the Games2Gether platform:

What we want to do is to focus on making games; that is why we created Amplitude. But with the pressure on sales and marketing we found that more and more time was dedicated to everything else – everything that we didn't have the size and scale to deal with. So we decided to look for the best partner we could to protect us from these distractions so that game development did not become a chore, but remained a passion.

Our Take
Sega already owns PC strategy studios Relic and Creative Assembly, so it will be interesting to see if this crowds the space for Sega (no pun intended) or makes the company's strategy offerings stronger.
