Sony Ending PS4 Ustream Broadcasting Support In August

by Mike Futter on Jun 28, 2016 at 03:43 AM

Sony is getting ready to sunset one of the streaming options on the PlayStation 4. The company says that it will be ending support for the Ustream service.

Services will end on August 1, 2016. This includes broadcasting to Ustream and viewing streams via Live from PlayStation, the PlayStation mobile app, and Vita.

Sony didn’t offer a reason for the termination. Users will still be able to broadcast and/or upload to YouTube, Twitch, and Dailymotion.

Our Take
Many of the services available for streaming have rules about what can be broadcast. Twitch ran into some problems with Playroom early on in the PS4 life and had to make some rapid adjustments. It’s unclear if Ustream’s policies impacted Sony’s decision or if there simply too few users taking advantage of the platform to warrant continued support.
