Legendary Digital Media Announces Live Action Mighty No. 9 Film

by Hershall Cook on Jul 07, 2015 at 08:45 AM

Legendary Digital Media, a company perhaps best known for its film adaption of Dead Rising, has announced a feature-length movie based on Mighty No. 9. Legendary Digital Media will handle distribution, while its partner Contradiction Films deals with the day-to-day process of production. Keiji Inafune's development studio Comcept also looks to serve a small role as a consultant.

Although Dead Rising: Watchtower first released for Sony's video-on-demand service Crackle, the film adaptation of Mighty No. 9 may or may not follow that route; as of this writing, the project is confirmed for digital platforms without any explanation of how. Speaking of comparisons between the two films, it remains to be seen how closely the movie version of the Mega Man spiritual successor will follow the game's story. In the case of Dead Rising: Watchtower, writers shifted the focus away from Frank West and toward four other characters.

While Legendary Digital Media's unnamed project has no release date, Mighty No. 9 launches on Sept. 5, 2015. The action platformer will be available on most current-generation consoles as well as Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
