Destiny Cracks 9.5 Million Registered Users

by Matt Bertz on Nov 04, 2014 at 09:31 AM

Bungie's new universe has certainly proven its appeal to gamers. According to the Activision Blizzard's quarterly earnings report, Destiny has more than 9.5 million registered users across all of the platforms.

This is the first report on how Destiny is faring since September, when Activision reported the game had shipped five million copies of the game to retail and garnered $325 million in the first week.

Activision says active players are playing an average of three hours per session. This is likely in pursuit of legendary and exotic gear as players try to increase their rank from 20 to 30. Players get a new dose of content on December 9, when the first expansion, The Dark Below, launches.

Our Take
Given that we haven't seen official sales numbers for Destiny yet since the reports of its successful launch, this is the best data we have to gage how Bungie's new franchise as impacted the industry. With 9.5 million registered users, it's safe to call the Destiny launch a wild success for Bungie and Activision.
