The Cryptarch Abides As Latest Destiny Patch Goes Live

by Mike Futter on Oct 01, 2014 at 07:09 AM

We hope you haven’t been hanging onto any legendary engrams in your Destiny vault. Now that the new Destiny patch is live, those are now blue but your chance (however slim) at purple gear from them hasn't changed. There are some reasons to be happy about this patch, especially if you're trying to boost your light level.

Blue (rare) engrams will now have a greater chance of pumping out a legendary item. This includes ascendent shards and ascendent energy, which are now considered legendary tier (upgraded from rare tier). Additionally, rare and legendary engram drops are now part of the reward table for the Vanguard: Tiger strike playlist, daily heroic missions, and weekly strikes (only the first time per play, though). Finally, Bungie is aware of a UI bug that doesn't show added experience rewards for higher difficulties. You'll still receive your bonus, though.

For crucible players, Bungie has reduced the map time on First Light and Bastion from 15 minutes to 12 minutes in control and clash modes. Those two maps will appear less frequently in the rotation now, too. If you're playing, you'll need to reload from the main menu to trigger the patch.

In addition to the game patch, the companion app has received a few tweaks. It's now easier to review Grimoire cards in the app, and there are a number of usability changes that will help you find information about the tower and raids.

Our Take
I'm eager to dive back in and see how the changes impact my experience. I've been maligned by The Cryptarch more than a few times, but the next time I see a purple legendary engram, I know it will be something good. Probably.

Maybe.
