Counterfeit PS3 Controllers Blow Up

by Matthew Kato on Sep 23, 2010 at 06:37 AM

Counterfeit PS3 controllers that look "practically identical in appearance" to the real deal have hit the market, and Sony is warning people that bad things may happen if you use them.

Despite warning consumers of the possibility of explosions, uncertain quality, and incompatibility with PS3 software updates, Sony doesn't give any guide as to what these counterfeit controllers look like. Moreover, it's unclear if there have been any actual reports of explosions, or if Sony's just advising people that these things are theoretically possible when you don't buy unlicensed peripherals.

Either way, if someone beckons you into a dark alley opens up a stained raincoat and wants to show you their goods – beware of cheap joysticks.
