One Million Stimulus Packages Consumed In First Day

by Adam Biessener on Apr 07, 2010 at 12:27 PM

Activision taunted the world in this afternoon's press release touting its massive first-day sales of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC. The map pack's more than a million sales in 24 hours over Xbox Live -- and more than 2.5 million in its first week -- is a new record for the service, generating over $37 million in revenues at $15 a pop.

For all the shrieking and rending of garments over the DLC's high price -- and "high" doesn't do justice to selling five maps for $15 -- it sure did sell a ton. Like the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott (remember that?) or the outcry over Ubisoft's obnoxious DRM, it would appear that companies that make games that people want to play can get away with a lot more than we'd perhaps like without affecting the bottom line.

PC and PS3 gamers are looking in from the outside on the whole situation, as Activision has not seen fit to release the Stimulus Package on either platform. No, there's not a good reason for it, so don't ask.

Are you stimulated, or did you take a pass on the DLC?
