UPDATE: Vice president of Epic Games, Mark Rein, responded
to the Gears of War 3 coming in April 2011
rumor with, "You're kidding, right?" This is rather damning to the
original loose talk, but it's also not a concrete "no." More on this as
it develops.
ORIGINAL STORY: How does a new Gears of War about a year from now sound to you? A report recently surfaced pointing to an April 2011 release date for Epic Games’ next over-the-shoulder shoot-a-thon. The game could allegedly hit shelves much sooner, if it weren’t for Microsoft’s other huge releases hitting this year.
A “trusted US publishing source” told Edge that Gears of War 3 is already in development and set to debut April, 2010. After the upcoming teaser trailer has blood-thirsty gamers smelling chainsaw fuel in the air, a full reveal is said to be coming at E3 this year.
Microsoft is being very cautious about the release window of Gears of War 3. They’re attempting to reduce cannibalizing on the releases of Project Natal and Halo: Reach later this year by pushing Gears to 2011.
“Microsoft’s keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas. That’s why we won’t be seeing Gears Of War 3 until next year, but expect a major marketing push ahead of its release,” the source told Edge.
Microsoft isn’t currently commenting on this bit of hearsay.
