Random House Getting Into Game Storytelling, Teaming Up With Stardock

by Adam Biessener on Mar 01, 2010 at 07:03 AM

One of the biggest players in book publishing is making its way into gaming, sort of. Random House is creating a new division that will manage and provide editorial support for "original transmedia intellectual property...that will be developed and marketed in partnerships with other media companies." Kicking off this effort is a collaboration with Stardock for its upcoming strategy title Elemental: War of Magic, for which Random House will be publishing Elemental: Destiny's Embers by Stardock prez Brad Wardell.

"With Elemental having an incredibly rich back story to tell, partnering with Random House allows us to create the most immersive universe possible for our fans," Wardell stated in a press release.

What exactly will be different about Random House having a dedicated division to working with other entertainment companies is unclear. The benefit to gamers will ideally be more robustly edited and fleshed out universes for our games to draw from.
