PSA: Xbox One Update Brings Beam Streaming, Changes To Guide Today

by Jordan Leendertsen on Mar 29, 2017 at 07:30 AM

The Xbox One gets a pretty hefty update today that is meant to make streaming gameplay from the console easier for players by updating Guide navigation and utilizing Beam streaming.

After today's update, pressing the Xbox button on the controller will bring up the Guide as an overlay on the left side of the screen. The guide will display Games and Apps, Home, Store, recently launched games, and even deals for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

Beam streaming will utilize a low-latency streaming to stream gameplay directly from the console to a live audience in real time, and can even be activated on the fly from the newly updated guide. Beam will be available on Windows 10 PC on April 11.

The update also includes the ability for parents to set screen time for their children, and Blu-Ray bitstream passthrough, which allows for native audio decoding. For a full list of everything featured in the update, you can check out the write-up on Microsoft's website here.
