Destiny Players On Last-Gen Consoles Say Goodbye To Trials Of Osiris, Iron Banner

by Mike Futter on Jun 28, 2016 at 01:38 AM

Bungie has detailed how Destiny is changing for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players with this fall’s Rise of Iron. As you likely know by now, the new expansion isn’t coming to last-gen consoles, but that isn’t the only big shift.

First, the good news. Those of you playing on older “legacy” systems will still have access to strikes, raids, crucible, daily missions, weekly strikes, and nightfalls. You’ll also still have Prison of Elders access and can celebrate Armsday each week.

Your weekly date with Xur is going to change, though. On Xbox 360 and PS3, he won’t be selling individual exotics anymore. Instead, he’ll have different types of engrams that decrypt into Year 2 exotics or Year 1 exotics. He’ll also still sell all the items and quest materials as normal.

Once Rise of Iron launches though, you will stop seeing updates and live events. Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and other special happenings won’t be returning to last-gen consoles.

In order to continue playing new content, you’ll need to migrate to Xbox One or PlayStation 4. This can only be done in the same console family, unfortunately.

Our Take
This split was inevitable, but thankfully it comes two years after Destiny’s original release. Hopefully this won’t leave too many players relative to the entire player population without a path to keep playing new content.
