PSA: Sony Acknowledges PlayStation Network Issues
If you’re having trouble connecting to PlayStation Network, you aren’t alone. Sony has acknowledged some current problems with the service.
Sony says it is currently looking into the issues and will update as we know more.

When issues were reported, we were able to log in, browse the store, and download items. We did receive an error once. Note that your individual experiences might not be reflective of the errors that the service is having.
We’ll update as more information becomes available.
Update: Sony is offering some conflicting information about the PlayStation Network status. The following images were taken one after the other moments ago.

It seems that Sony isn't using all the tools at its disposal, but we now have a bit more information. The company says that servers are undergoing maintenance, though none was announced in advance.
