Where Is Fable Legends? Microsoft Isn’t Saying Quite Yet

by Mike Futter on Dec 10, 2015 at 05:16 AM

Fable Legends was scheduled to be part of Microsoft’s big fall lineup. But it’s December now, and the game isn’t out, let alone in open beta.

We reached out to Microsoft for comment, who didn’t have much to share. What we did receive doesn’t hint at whether the game is still going to playable by the masses this year.

The four-versus-one game is currently planned as a free-to-play title with Xbox One and Windows 10 cross-platform play. One player controls the traps and hordes of enemies, while a team of heroes pushes toward the final goal.

“As a service-based title in closed beta, we’re always working to make sure that when we open ‘Fable Legends’ to everyone, that it’s a great gameplay experience,” a Microsoft representative told us via email. “We are continuing to expand our closed beta and will have more details to share in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!”

Our Take
When I played Fable Legends at Gamescom, it was clear it was a work in progress. We were told that it would arrive in open beta this year, and not a formal release. Plans change, but it’s been so quiet from Lionhead that it feels like there is absolutely no buzz about this offshoot. Fans want a classic Fable game, and this just isn’t fitting the bill.
