Weekend Warrior 10/9/2015

by Marcus Stewart on Oct 09, 2015 at 02:00 PM

Minnesota’s weather is rapidly cooling (at least for this Floridian), providing an excellent excuse to barricade ourselves inside and play video games. Destiny: The Taken King has taken up much of the staff's weekend plans, but the Star Wars Battlefront beta may elbow it's way into our game time. Some us are still trying to get The Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain under our belts, while others plan to live out their athlete/musician fantasies with a myriad of sports titles and Rock Band 4. Share your weekend plans in the comments!

Ben Hanson (@yozetty) – This weekend I'm trying to rekindle my love of Metal Gear Solid V. I took too long of a break to check out some other games and really need to blast through this thing. I'm on the mission 19 at around the 32-hour mark; I think I'm really bad and really slow at this game. Outside of that, I'm going to bring Jackbox Party Pack 2 to a party on Saturday and am anticipating a good, dumb, fun time. Have a good weekend!

Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7– Last weekend, I didn’t make nearly as big a dent in The Witcher 3 as I planned, so hopefully I’ll rectify that this weekend. I’ve also been chipping away at Bravely Default’s stupid ending boss rush crap, so that may get some attention – if I don’t abandon it for the not annoying Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. The Star Wars Battlefront beta was fun during the hour or so I’ve spent with it, so I may lend a hand to the Empire or Rebels once more. Beyond gaming, I look forward to some peaceful walks around the beautiful parks in my area, weather permitting.

Jeff Marchiafava (@GIJeffM) – My MGS V campaign got unexpectedly derailed this week by Blood Bowl II – as ridiculously bizarre as the concept is, it’s a solid turn-based strategy game quite unlike any I’ve played before. I may play a few more matches this weekend, but I also want to return to Big Boss. The wild card? A number of GI editors are returning to Destiny this weekend, so it might be time to finally dust off my level-15 Hunter and check out the improvements.

Matthew Kato (@MattKato) – After taking a little break from them, I’m eager to dive back into a bunch of sports titles: PES 2016, FIFA, NHL, and Madden. I also need to keep going on MGS V, which won’t be hard from an interest perspective, only a time one. Hockey in real-life has started up, and with two games on Saturday (Wild and Gophers), along with the U.S./Mexico Confederations Cup play-in game, it’s going to be hard to find the time to watch/play everything.

Parker Lemke (@ParkerLemke) – Over the weekend I plan to check out an indie survival horror title called Monstrum. It came out in May without making a huge stir, but looks intriguing nonetheless. Permadeath and procedurally-generated levels onboard a derelict cargo freighter stalked by hideous monsters? Count me in. Other titles on my playlist include Mega Man Legends, Axiom Verge and the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, which I snatched up for $3.99 on Steam last week. With Rise of the Tomb Raider coming out next month, it’s as good a time as any for me to finally play the reboot of Lara Croft’s adventures.

Tim Turi (@timturi) – Metal Gear Solid V is complete (well, not 100% complete, no way I’m knocking out all those Side Ops), so I’m on to new things! And by “new”, I mean the months-old Witcher 3. I plan to finish up Geralt’s quest while also advancing my Hunter in Destiny: The Taken King, which I’m having a ton of fun with. I’d also like to polish off a work-in-progress Super Mario Maker level.

Jeff Cork (@gijeff) – I'm hoping to get back to The Witcher 3 and finally finish the damned thing. That way, I'll be set when the DLC comes out next week. Oh, it never ends. I'm also going to play Rock Band 4 until my fingers are locked into gnarled claws. Oh, it never ends, either. Particularly when the game won't stop recommending that my band plays Fleetwood Mac's "You Make Loving Fun" over and over and over and over again. Enough!

Joseph Knoop (@JosephKnoop) – I’ll be blowing this place and going home to the Star Wars Battlefront beta. What I’ve played so far indicates an impressive level of arcade-style gameplay that’s enough of a divergence from Battlefield to give me that gleeful Star Wars experience not seen on consoles since the last Battlefronts on PlayStation 2. It’s also my birthday on Sunday, so I will more than likely be treating myself to something far beyond my actual budget!

Brian Shea (@BrianPShea) – I’m going to be spending a lot of my weekend living out my dreams of extravagant careers I’m not talented enough in real life to pursue. That means I’ll be pretending I’m a rock star with Rock Band 4, a professional athlete in NBA 2K16 and Madden 16, and a legendary merc in Metal Gear Solid V. Also, I’ll probably play some Destiny and Super Mario Maker.
