Square Enix Acting Coy About Next-Gen Tomb Raider Leak

by Mike Futter on Nov 20, 2013 at 05:16 AM

What do you call an HD update when the source material is already HD? Apparently, you call it the “Definitive Edition.” At least that’s what Square Enix is reportedly calling a next-gen Tomb Raider update according to an Amazon Italy leak.

IGN reported the news earlier this week, and Square Enix’s response offers hope that it might be real. A representative told the outlet that fans should keep an eye on “major gaming events happening in December.”

That correlates nicely to VGX, which is taking place on December 7, 2013. Tomb Raider is nominated in five categories, including Game of the Year. You can read our review of it here.

Our Take
We already know that a next-generation sequel to this year’s Tomb Raider reboot is in the works, and given the success of the title, a PS4/Xbox One version might make sense. However, one of the big complaints about the title’s DLC approach is that it was focused exclusively on the lackluster multiplayer. There’s not much that a “complete” version could offer most players beyond improved graphics.
