Ken Levine: Motion Control "Needs To Be Kept Separate"

by Adam Biessener on Jun 23, 2011 at 08:43 AM

BioShock creator Ken Levine told OXM that integrating motion control into traditional games needs to be undertaken with great care in a recent interview. "What you don't want to do is add something in and enforce it on anybody," Levine declared.

Levine may as well be telepathic. "Any experience that sits in the realm of motion play needs to be kept separate from the main experience," he said as if speaking from my heart of hearts.

On the other hand, Levine praised BioWare's Kinect integration in Mass Effect 3, noting that elements like voiced squad commands can serve as elegant solutions to tasks poorly suited to a controller.

Levine's current project, BioShock Infinite, keeps on racking up game of the show awards every time developer Irrational releases new footage. Not that I expected to have to bust a move (though my steez is undoubtedly fresh), but I'm sleeping easier knowing that I won't be forced to waggle my way across Colombia.
