Redbox Expanding Game Rentals In June

by Tim Turi on Apr 28, 2011 at 01:32 PM

Have you ever strolled up to the Redbox machine at the grocery store, inhaling fistfuls of Tabasco-flavored Cheez-its while thinking, “this thing should rent out games”? If you answered yes, then this news should bring a smile to your orange-stained lips. Redbox is expanding their game rental service nationwide, growing their game-shilling machines from from 5,000 to 21,000, thus increasing the chances of one being located at a nearby grocery, drug store, or cheese cracker shop.

Come June 17 you’ll be able to rent 360, PS3, or Wii titles from the big red media sarcophaguses for a measly $2 a day. According to Redbox there will be a mix of "top releases to popular family and kids titles." We hope this means that one customer could grab the bloodiest M-rated title out there, while another could rent out Wii Sports Resort, or something.

With Blockbusters closing all over the place it’s good to see customers will have another option when renting games. What was Blockbusters biggest mistake? A lack of Cheez-its.

Please note the Cheez-it related opinions in this post are those of the author’s, and doesn’t necessarily reflect Game Informer as a whole.
