Bulletstorm Coming February 2011

by Matt Miller on Jun 14, 2010 at 01:10 PM

EA's cooperative venture with Epic Games and People Can Fly is churning out some crazy action.

Bulletstorm had prime demo time at the E3 Electronic Arts press conference, showing off some of the promised ridiculous, over-the-top action.

As the demo begins, the heroes are looking for a way to get cyborg Ishi Sato recharged before he runs out of power. This sends them running through a facility swarming with enemies, and reveals some of the unique abilities of the energy leash, a long, whiplike tendril that can pull enemies close or fling them high in the air to be riddled with bullets. Main character Grayson Hunt kicks down objects and enemies alike as he rushes through platforms and metallic rooms.

Throughout the insanity, the skill shot system rewards player-created mayhem with points and combos. Creative kills and crazy stunts garner big bonuses, and the demo we saw showed just how flexible the system can be. The gameplay sequence we saw was filled with constant action. Gorgeous visuals that include eye-popping particle effects and some great dynamic shifts to the environment really sell the franchise as one to watch. At the end of the demo, the facility is blown to pieces, and the two heroes go flying off in a fast-paced vehicle pursuit. It turns out that the energy leash even works on high speed vehicles.

Along with the frenetic gameplay demo, Bulletstorm also got a release date. February 22, 2011 will see the game releasing on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
