Sega Luring Players To VIP Game Site With Sweet Controller
Sega’s PlaySega site is still in beta, so you’re forgiven if you’ve never heard of it before. The long and short of it is that the site is another online games portal that delivers a mix of arcade games and other casual offerings to players who visit. In addition to games such as Atomic Word Burst and Hollywood Adventure Quiz, some classics like Sonic the Hedgehog are available. Do well, and you can earn rings that can be traded for prize drawings. There’s also some avatar and home-base customization stuff in there to keep pulling players back.
The free content is perfectly nice, but the VIP section is where it gets a little more interesting. Members who sign up for the service (starting at $5.95 a month) get access to a Sonic level editor, extra rings and all that jazz. OK, that’s still not very interesting. How about this? VIP members get access to 40 games (including more Genesis titles) without any of the ad breaks that visitors endure. If that’s not enough, those who sign up for a three-month subscription ($14.95) get a USB gamepad that’s remarkably similar to the Saturn controller. Extra ones can be scored for $12.95 apiece. Even if you’re not interested in old games, people in the market for a PC gamepad should check out the deal.
