iPhone Rock Band Coming Mid-October

by Bryan Vore on Oct 08, 2009 at 11:49 AM

I spoke with Electronic Arts Mobile to get the details, set list, and screens for the upcoming iPhone edition.

First off, Rock Band iPhone plays more like the home console edition instead of the Amplitude-inspired PSP and DS versions. Instead of jumping around between several different instruments in the middle of a song, you’ll select guitar, bass, drums, or vocals in the menu and tap along to falling gems on four different onscreen buttons. Full local 4-player band multiplayer is available via Bluetooth.

Online multiplayer is a no go, but you can use the in-game messaging system, which is linked to your Facebook friends list, to send out co-op invites. Recipients will have an eight-day window to complete their instrument’s part on a song. Once all members have completed a song, all scores will combine into one big tally.

Tracks are said to be of “MP3 quality,” but no bitrates have been confirmed. Difficulty tiers have been simplified to easy, medium, and difficult. While quick play is to be expected, a world tour career mode is also included, complete with some kind of reward and achievement system. Of course, downloadable tracks will be made available regularly as well.

Pricing is still TBA, but we expect the game to be on the cheaper side to open the gate for people to blow cash on DLC. I’ll update further if I hear any new details today. Otherwise, I’ll put up my impressions when the game releases in a week or so.
