Fable II Gets Episodic Treatment, First Chapter Free

by Jeff Marchiafava on Oct 02, 2009 at 06:06 AM

This week Lionhead Studios have released what might be the largest demo we've seen for a console game yet; in an attempt to win over gamers who have yet to take their second plunge into Albion, the company is splitting Fable II into five episodes, and releasing the first one for free. According to our rudimentary math skills, that should be roughly 1/5th of the game that you can play before giving up any of those precious Microsoft Points. Or so our string of disappointed math teachers would have us believe...

The other possibility is that the first episode will be a sparse introduction to the world, cutting off your play time right before the real adventure begins. Either way, the fact that Microsoft haven't announced a price plan for the rest of the game strikes us as strange. Sure, the first taste is always free -- but how much is it going to cost once you're hooked? Seeing as how a new copy of Fable II is selling for $30.00 in stores, we're guessing the four remaining chapters will probably be around $5-6 each... Any more and that first chapter wouldn't exactly be free, would it?
