Blur Joins List of Titles Racing to 2010

Although Fall 2009 has lost a lot of potentially huge new releases that have been pushed back to 2010 – including the likes of BioShock 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Stacraft II – one genre hasn’t experienced many setbacks: racing. With Forza 3, Need for Speed: Shift, and Gran Turismo PSP all hitting the road this fall, fans of going fast have plenty to look forward to. Perhaps with that in mind, Activision announced today that they’re putting the brakes on Bizarre Creations’ upcoming Blur and easing it into 2010.

According to Activision’s press release, the primary reason for Blur’s delay is more time for the developer to work on the game’s extensive online multiplayer modes. Often touted as “the Facebook of racing,” Blur’s ambitious multiplayer includes up to 20 players racing at once in highly customizable matches and a persistent online identity.

Despite the delay, Activision says they are still on target to hit their estimated outlook for 2009. What’s keeping them up? No surprises here: “global demand for Modern Warfare 2, which continues to exceed expectations,” plus they’ve had some impressive sales for the most recent Call of Duty: World at War map pack. The mega-publisher has reassured stockholders that they have little to fear, although they also added in an ominous (if necessary) caveat about “the continuing uncertainty in the global economic climate and the difficult retail environment anticipated during the 2009 holiday season.”

As for Blur, Activision has yet to offer a more specific release window than some time in 2010. Hopefully the extra time will be put to good use.
